Examine and review employment-based permanent residency issues, forms and processes, university policies, and case studies, including U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) procedures, advising challenges, and more. Designed for experienced international student and scholar advisers and program administrators. Following this workshop, participants receive a NAFSA Core Education Program Certificate of Completion.

Arda Beskardes

M. Arda Beskardes is an attorney based in New York City. He is a member of AILA, NAFSA and the ABA. IN addition to his private practice, Arda also serves as the Supervising Attorney of The City University of New York (CUNY) system, overseeing CUNY’s F & J related immigration policies, procedures, concerns, & other issues. Before heading on to a solo practice, Beskardes was an attorney with Siskind Susser, PC, one of the most prestigious immigration firms in the country. Prior to Siskind Susser, Arda was the in-house immigration specialist of The University of Memphis. He frequently conducts professional development workshops, lectures, and writes on immigration issues for NAFSA and other educational associations. Beskardes is a graduate of The University of Memphis's Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law (JD, 1998), and the Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences (BA, 1995), where he studied political science with a concentration in labor economics and industrial relations.


Tina Tan

Tina Tan is the Director of International Students and Scholar Services at the University of Colorado-Boulder. She has over 27 years of experience working with international students and scholars and 18 years’ experience working with lawful permanent residency (LPR) issues. She has presented frequently on LPR issues in NAFSA workshops and NAFSA sessions.


Elissa Taub

Elissa J. Taub is an attorney in the Memphis office of Siskind Susser PC, where she practices primarily in the area of physician immigration. She has extensive experience with J-1 waivers, H-1Bs, O-1s, EB-1 extraordinary ability petitions, National Interest Waivers and labor certification based green cards, as well as a variety of other business and family immigration processes. Prior to joining the firm in 2007, Elissa was an associate at two large law firms where she represented corporate clients in a variety of complex litigation matters, including antitrust, white collar criminal and class action litigation. Elissa earned her Juris Doctor degree from Villanova University School of Law in Villanova, PA where she graduated magna cum laude, Order of the Coif. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Washington University in St. Louis. Elissa has authored several articles and spoken on panels related to physician and business immigration and is regularly invited by clients to present on immigration matters. Elissa is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and The Florida Bar.
