This workshop provides effective strategies for successful international student recruitment and to help your students thrive once they are enrolled.

Marie C. Whalen

Associate Director of International Admissions and Recruitment

Spokane, WA

Marie Whalen is Associate Director of International Admissions and Recruitment at Whitworth University. Born in Luxembourg, and raised in Europe and the U.S., Marie has worked in the international education profession for 17 years, including in international program development and management, student affairs and advising, immigration and admissions. She has presented at NAFSA, EducationUSA Forum and International Association for College Admissions Counseling on topic ranging from setting institutional English language requirements to international recruitment strategies and ethical admissions. She has also given workshops and presentations to international school counselors and students on U.S. admissions. Marie is a Member of the NAFSA’s International Student and Scholar Subcommittee on Crisis Management.

Lin Larson

Lin Larson has involved herself in international education through study abroad and recruitment and admission for more than 18 years. Having worked in both public and private institutions of higher education, with an interlude in private consulting, Larson has developed and implemented strategic recruitment plans, participated in various forms of recruitment travel, and supervised an international admissions office. She has presented at NAFSA, EducationUSA Forum on Education Abroad, and International Association for College Admission Counseling conferences, mentored many colleagues new to international recruitment, and consulted international advisers, teachers, and counselors on the U.S. higher education system and institutions. Lin currently serves as a core team member of the UCB MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program and sits on the IACAC's Inclusion, Success and Access Committee.

Sarah Wambe

Director of Admissions

Sarah Wambe is the Director of Admissions at Concord University, located in rural Athens, West Virginia. She was born and raised in San Francisco, and completed her undergraduate degree at California State University, Long Beach. After graduation she moved to London, where she interned at an accounting firm and had the opportunity to travel extensively in Europe. Sarah returned to the Los Angeles area in 2006 and found a passion for Enrollment Management.. In 2014 she relocated to West Virginia to develop and grow the both the domestic and international population at Concord University. Sarah is currently attending West Virginia University were she is pursuing a Masters of Arts in Higher Education Administration. In her spare time Sarah volunteers with the Junior League of the Roanoke Valley.

Shawn Greenfield

Assistant Director, International Undergraduate Admissions & Recruitment

Shawn Greenfield is the Assistant Director of International Undergraduate Admissions and Marketing at Washington State University, and has worked in the field of international education for the past 6 years. After spending a year in Japan teaching English, he returned to his home state of Idaho to work in international recruitment and marketing for the University of Idaho. Over the past several years, Shawn has gained valuable insight and knowledge into multiple recruitment platforms and strategies.

With experience recruiting and traveling in more than 40 countries, Shawn has a lot of experience on the ground working directly with international students, foreign institutions, government agencies, recruitment agencies, and more. He has been involved with NAFSA, International ACAC, EducationUSA Forum, the American International Recruitment Council (AIRC), and ICEF.
