This is a unique opportunity for participants to visit and interact with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). During this workshop, participants will have an opportunity to speak with CBP officers and experience firsthand the processing of international visitors at Denver International Airport. Tour includes primary and secondary inspection. There will be no on-site registration for this workshop.

Bruce Gawtry

Macalester College
St. Paul, MN

Bruce Gawtry is currently an immigration specialist at Macalester College and an advisor and immigration coordinator at the University of Minnesota. He recently retired as a CBP/INS supervisory officer. He was the only INS inspector detailed as a member of the CIPRIS/SEVIS Task Force. He is a past presenter at NAFSA conferences and also at several POE workshops. He is a frequent speaker at the Minnesota International Educators group.


Leanne J. Couch

Director, International Student & Scholar Services
University of North Texas
Denton, TX

Ms. Leanne Couch is the Director of International Student & Scholar Services at the University of North Texas, which provides immigration services for the over 3,000 international students, visiting scholars, faculty, and staff coming to the Denton campus and the entire UNT System.

Ms. Couch has worked in different areas of international education since 2008, including International Admissions, Sponsored and Special Programs, and Intensive English. Ms. Couch currently serves as a NAFSA Trainer Corps member and serves on the Travel Subcommittee for the International Student and Scholar Regulatory Practice Committee for NAFSA.
