This session provides an overview of basic principles radiation safety. Methods for preparing & positioning small animals for radiographic studies utilizing radiographic aids to benefit personnel safety and result in diagnostic radiographs.

Elaine Anthony

St. Petersburg College School of Veterinary Technology

Elaine Anthony is an Associate Professor at the St. Petersburg College School of Veterinary Technology, both on-campus and online in Florida. Elaine also works part time- relief in various area veterinary practices.

She has an Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology, a Master’s in Adult Education and a certificate in Veterinary Hospital Management.

Along with Elaine’s 30+ years’ experience as a Veterinary Technician educator, she had worked with Nestle Purina for 20 years as a Nutritional Consultant, was a member of the Editorial Board for Veterinary Technician for 21 years and served on the Bayer Technician Advisory Council since it began in 2006-2013.
Since Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005, Elaine has been one of the original team members of Disaster Animal Response Team (DART), helping in disasters around the country a few weeks a year and is now on the Florida SART.

As a frequent speaker at national and regional educational conferences for veterinary technicians for the past 20 years, Elaine’s primary areas of expertise are clinical pathology and radiology. In 2010 Ms. Anthony was the Keynote Speaker for the Veterinary Nurse Conference in Australia. In April 2013, she lectured at the Latin American Veterinary Conference LAVC in Peru. She was a guest columnist and frequent contributor to Veterinary Technician, the journal for the veterinary technology profession. Her columns on clinical pathology were a recurring feature. Ms. Anthony co-authored; Handbook of Radiographic Positioning for Veterinary Technicians, 1st ed. (2010), as well as contributing author in teaching texts used in veterinary technology education; Laboratory Procedures for Veterinary Technicians 5th ed. (2007) , Principle and Practice of Veterinary Technology 3rd ed. (2010). Elaine was selected by as one of the top 15 Veterinary Technology Professors in the country.

Elaine is married to David, a small animal veterinarian. They have two lovely daughters, Kjersten (30) and Heidi (22) and varying furry ones.
She loves trail-running, yoga, hiking and playing violin
