Early pregnancy can be a challenging time for women as well as their primary care providers. This talk will review presentation, diagnosis and management of common first trimester problems. The role of Early Pregnancy Assessment Units will be explored.
Interim Chief, Department of Family and Community Medicine
Dr. Karen Fleming is an assistant professor with the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto. She is the Interim Chief of the Department of Family and Community Medicine and Division Lead Family Medicine Obstetrics at Sunnybrook Hospital. Dr. Fleming’s current research and practice interests include chronic disease prevention, exercise in pregnancy and pregnancy complications as predictors of future health. She is interested in women’s cardiovascular health and the opportunities provided by pregnancy and the postpartum period to modify risks for not one but two generations. She established the 4P Maternal Health Clinic in 2014 for women whose pregnancies were complicated by gestational hypertension or preeclampsia to provide education to improve women’s future health.
