Approaches to Common Scenarios of Plastic Surgery for FP

Plastic Surgery is a key specialty to improve patient outcomes. The approaches are from head to toe and the techniques are easily applicable to family practice. The talks will discuss numerous aspects of this specialty with strategies to improve patient management. Key areas covered include Hand Surgery both elective and emergency hands. These are common in the Family practice and Emergency room setting.

Wounds will be discussed and common strategies provided on how to handle simple wounds. This will touch on diabetic wounds, pressure ulcers, burns and necrotizing soft tissue infections.

The talk will discuss strategies on approaches in ambulatory care and emergency room with the use of dissolving sutures, nerve blocks, long lasting analgesia, ear lacerations, lip lacerations.

Simple approaches to Skin cancers will be mentioned.

The whole talk gives approaches that all family doctors can use in their immediate practice to the best advantage of their patients.

Dr. Sanjay Azad is a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. He is also an Assistant Professor at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM). He medically qualified with honors from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, India and completed his basic surgical training from the same institution. He thereafter moved to the UK where he completed his plastic surgical training from the Merseyside Rotation. He then went on to become a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the renowned Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birminghmam. He dealt with war injured soldiers and had a tertiary breast reconstruction and postbariatric surgical practice.

In the UK he started the West Midlands Advanced Plastic Surgery Preparatory Course (WAPS). This became the premier course for plastic surgical trainees, approaching the FRCS Plastic Surgery examination. He also also started the Lipomodelling Course which was a recognised forum for discussing and teaching lipomodelling in the UK.

Dr Sanjay Azad has been a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in Thunder Bay for the last 4years. His practice includes the whole gamut of plastic surgery including hands, breast reconstruction, postbariatric surgery, skin cancer and tertiary wound management. He is in the process of setting up the Principle of Plastic Surgery (POPS) course for all physicians. This aim of this course is--PLASTIC SURGERY FOR ALL, TO IMPROVE PATIENT OUTCOMES.

He is passionate about teaching and training and is involved with the same in Northern Ontario. He is widely published and presents to different forums on a regular basis, with the aim of spreading the word about platsic surgery, as a key specialty in core patient management.
