This talk will focus on key areas of thyroid disease management relevant to family practice - the common thyroid disorders seen in practice, when and how to utilize biochemical and radiological investigations for screening and diagnosis of these thyroid disorders in a cost-effective way, and what tests to avoid, using cases and examples to illustrate these concepts.

Shoba Sujana Kumar, MD, MSc, FRCPC is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and has an MSc in Community Health and Medical Education. She is an active teacher in undergraduate and postgraduate education and director of the Internal Medicine Academic Half Day at the University of Toronto. Her clinical interests include diabetes, endocrinology of pregnancy, PCOS and thyroid cancer. At Women’s College Hospital, she is also director of the Endocrine Preconception and Pregnancy Program, and also works in General Internal Medicine in the Acute Ambulatory Care Unit.
