Introduction to Medical Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids as a class of chemical compounds have garnered tremendous attention over the last several years. It is becoming increasingly important that physicians develop a comfort with them in order to appropriately counsel and educate their patients regarding their use. This presentation aims to briefly review the function of this unique class, review the regulations surrounding its medical use, and outline some of its common medical uses.

Learning Objectives:

Taylor Lougheed

Dr. Taylor Lougheed is a family, sport, and emergency medicine physician currently practicing primarily in the Ottawa area. He is the lead physician for the Cannabinoid Medical Clinic in Ottawa, and has given multiple talks on medical cannabinoids across the province. Academically, he is a lecturer in the MSc(HQ) program at Queen's University, and a clinical lecturer at the University of Ottawa in the Department of Family Medicine where he also serves as the Co-Director of the uOttawa-Guyana Family Medicine Residency Training Program. His professional passions are primary care, quality improvement, medical education, and global health.
