Screening & Prevention
Cancer Care Ontario’s ColonCancerCheck (CCC) program will be transitioning from the guaiac fecal occult blood test (gFOBT) to the fecal immunochemical test (FIT) for colorectal cancer screening of average risk individuals in Ontario. This presentation will review the evidence behind FIT and highlight its strengths when compared to both gFOBT and colonoscopy for colorectal cancer screening in average risk patients. Following this, participants will learn about the details surrounding the implementation of FIT in Ontario and how this will impact their colorectal screening practices and their patients. This includes information on how FIT kits will be distributed to eligible Ontarians with the new pathway, how kits will be returned, and how participants should manage follow up for their FIT positive patients.
