In light of the proposed shift from patient-based licensure exams to objectively structured clinical examinations (OSCE), it is essential that dental schools integrate OSCEs into their curricula to address this change. Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine has already implemented OSCEs in order to more accurately assess students' competency prior to graduation. This seminar will present the creation and administration of the short answer as well as the hands-on components of an OSCE so that you can begin preparing your own for your institutions.
Learning Objectives:
- Upon completion, participants will be able to describe best practices for designing and utilizing dental props and models for a hands-on OSCE.
- Upon completion, participants will be able to describe the logistics for administering a two part OSCE.
- Upon completion, participants will be able to apply ideas for formulating short-essay questions for an OSCE.
