Electronic health records set up a framework for interprofessional education and practice. Basic medical assessments and their implication is studied. Students learn how intra and extra oral health is affected by the patient's medical, pharmacological and social history. Students become more comfortable in consulting the patient's physician and are more aware of how medical conditions will have multiple oral manifestations. Electronic health records (EHR) facilitate connections to social media, medical websites and digital references. Archived paper charts will demonstrate how limited and singular our knowledge was. EHR has changed clinical training, diversifying resources that continues to change the profession .
Learning Objectives:
- Create a structured framework so that students understand the importance of other professions in the care of their patient.
- Provide guidance to students in recommending referrals to other specialties and describe how those medical professions impact a patients overall health.
- Guide students in requesting and following up with medical histories so they understand medical conditions and their manifestations in the oral cavity.
