Objective grading of student work has been an unending challenge for dental educators. Incorporation of digital technology offers new opportunities to eliminate or at least reduce subjectivity in evaluating and grading student work. Preparation evaluation tools offer enhanced consistency, accuracy and objectivity in grading and daily evaluations. We will demonstrate the various ways these digital applications can be utilized for student evaluation in preclinical fixed prosthodontics and facilitate creation of grading rubrics to do so. Upon completion of this workshop participants should be able to adapt their own rubrics to incorporate these tools.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the use of preparation evaluation tools in multiple modes.
- Formulate grading rubrics that exploit the potential of these evaluation tools.
- Understand the benefits and limitations of preparation evaluation software in preclinical grading.
