Electronic health records (EHRs) have found their way into dentistry via the "meaningful use" initiative and made the concept of a virtual patient a reality. Simulated training sessions can be crafted to enhance diagnostic skills and clinical competency. Dental educators must strategically position themselves to utilize simulation technology to conduct teaching modules that will engage the millennial students. Commercially available simulation software can be difficult to navigate and discouraging to educators. Aim of the program is to discuss cases created at two different institutions utilizing EHRs, radiology picture archiving and communication system (PACS) and Microsoft Office Mix, an easy-to-create and easy-to-use program.
Learning Objectives:
- Identifying challenging areas during the patient’s oral assessment.
- How to build virtual patients based on existing data.
- Discuss outcomes of the students learning experiences at two dental schools.
