The use of telehealth-connected teams and Virtual Dental Homes is gaining increased national attention. Since California enacted legislation supporting this mechanism, based on work at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry (Dugoni School), multiple other states have enacted similar legislation, four states are engaged in demonstrations of this delivery mechanism and numerous states are considering similar activities. The Dugoni School has now developed a curriculum designed to provide all dental and dental hygiene graduates with experiences working in telehealth-connected teams. This seminar will provide background, rationale, structure and curriculum components needed to incorporate this emerging and critical area in dental education programs.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the use of telehealth-connected teams and Virtual Dental Homes in the delivery of dental services.
- Explain the rationale, need, urgency, and strategies for incorporating knowledge and skills about the use of telehealth-connected teams in dental education programs.
- List components of dental and dental hygiene curricula designed to create graduates with competence in working in dental services delivery systems that use telehealth-connected teams and Virtual Dental Homes.
