As our appreciation and awareness of diversity continues to grow throughout the country, it is clear that dentists in 2030 must be more than culturally competent, but instead need to be culturally humble. In this program, presenters will discuss the importance of cultural humility and share activities that provide students a forum to understand the notion and how it shapes the delivery of dental care. Participants will experience first-hand several of the components of the program including interactive activities designed to help students recognize the diversity among themselves and understand how that diversity influences the delivery of optimum patient-centered care.

Learning Objectives:

• Outline two reasons why humility is a distinct and useful framework for working with diverse populations as a health care provider.
• Identify one example from personal experience as a clinician or educator that relates to cultural humility that will be useful when working with students.
• Develop a framework for teaching cultural humility that educators can use in their communities.
