The purpose of this program is to educate faculty about Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral for Treatment (SBIRT), an alternative method to conduct substance use intervention. After an interactive lecture, participants will break out into small groups to practice SBIRT on one another. Feedback and personal experiences using SBIRT in a dental hygiene program will also be provided. Faculty will then be prepared to take this information back to their facilities to apply in the clinical setting.
Learning Objectives:
- Upon completion, the participant will be able to describe the SBIRT approach to tobacco, alcohol, and drug counseling; and how it can be used in dental/dental hygiene curriculum.
- Upon completion, the participant will be able to demonstrate the utilization of SBIRT and how it can be used in the clinical setting.
- Upon completion, the participant will be able to competently teach SBIRT to dental and dental hygiene students.
