AD-005 - Cancelled session.....Selecting Dental Students: New Ways to Choose Better People
Sunday, March 18
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Location: Naples 1&2
CE: 1
Target Audience: Administrator
Learning Focus: Admissions, Financial Aid and Student Services
This session is now cancelled...Ideally, dental school graduates should possess requisite knowledge, skills and attitudes. GPA and DAT score predict knowledge acquisition, and schools facilitate technical skill development, but personal attitudes are difficult to change and near-impossible to measure using traditional methodologies. In medicine, new MCAT incorporation of psychosocial determinants and critical reasoning, and innovative tests of professionalism (situational judgment tests [SJTs] and multiple mini-interviews [MMIs]) are increasingly used. In 2016, New York Medical College School of Medicine used all five reliable measures: GPA, old MCAT, new MCAT, constructed-response SJT and MMI. Pearson correlations and factor analysis supported expectations of two separate constructs, cognitive and professional. Cancelled session.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will develop a deeper understanding of the psychometric properties of a "good" test.
- Participants will experience two innovative assessment tests of personal/professional characteristics.
- Participants will learn and provide perspective on the advantages and limitations of innovative admission selection tests.
