When you entered dental education, did you anticipate cloud electronic health records (EHRs), CAD/CAM and patient-generated data? Are these innovations beneficial to our curriculum? Will they ultimately benefit patients' health outcomes? In this interactive session, we will present three succinct technology-based visions of dental education in 2030: (1) Internet of Dental Things; (2) Learning Health System, including connected EHRs; and (3) personally controlled health records. Participants will augment these visions by adding potential barriers and risks associated with each vision. Lastly, the presenters and participants will collaboratively rate the likelihood of these barriers manifesting in order to prepare institutions and the profession.
Learning Objectives:
- Upon completion, participant will be able to describe the impact of connected devices (Internet of Dental Things) on patient care and dental education.
- Upon completion, participant will be able to describe how the next generation of electronic health records will continuously improve themselves automatically (Learning Health System) and be controlled by patients.
- Upon completion, participant will be able to identify potential barriers to technology-based improvements and plan to avoid them.
