Standards for postgraduate programs include high-level educational-quality documentation of effective treatment, diagnosis and management of myriad conditions and a system of formative and summative assessment to provide feedback to residents. Using an objective structured clinical exam (OSCE) testing format can be a practical approach to provide feedback and allow for self-assessment among residents. This program will present how two postgraduate periodontics programs implemented OSCEs and used this format to standardize testing, allow for self-assessment and provide feedback. Participants will: 1) evaluate their current assessment techniques and 2) discuss implementation of expanded opportunities for OSCE use in postgraduate programs.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify different assessment strategies.
- Learn about strategies, benefits and difficulties of implementing OSCEs into postgraduate curriculum.
- Discuss outcome measures and feedback techniques.
