Learning Focus: Emerging Issues and Trends

This seminar/workshop invites you to explore a continuing professional development event aimed at developing and sustaining interprofessional collaboration. Using an exemplar, the Oral-Systemic Health Day at the University of Manitoba, you will engage in collaborative dialogue responding to what happened, so what, and what now. That new behaviors resulted is a good thing; however, the relationship between behaviors and a cultural shift from silo to collaborative practice is an issue worthy of further exploration. The analogy being "It's like culturing a petri dish. It may be one thing to invite a culture, but quite another to actually see it grow."

Learning Objectives:

• Identify successful components of continuing professional development programs that foster interprofessional education and collaboration.
• Recognize barriers to interprofessional education in continuing professional development programs.
• Develop strategic opportunities for inculcating interprofessional education and a culture of interprofessional collaboration in communities of practicing healthcare providers.
