Students often find it challenging to perform occlusion clinical techniques. In this seminar, we will share how we implemented the flipped classroom to teach the occlusion technique of taking a Centric Relation Record. Students studied an online module created with Voicethread, a cloud-based presentation tool. The online module contained short videos demonstrating the procedure. Class time was used for interactive discussions to deepen students' understanding. Finally, students applied their knowledge in the clinic. Survey data showed that the flipped approach was well accepted by students and faculty observed improvement in students' skills.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain how a dental school implemented the flipped classroom approach to teach occlusion concepts and techniques.
- Utilize the cloud-based technology called Voicethread to design engaging online modules for the flipped classroom.
- Apply the flipped classroom approach in preclinical teaching at their own institution.
