Residency programs utilize several outcome assessment methods on a periodic basis; however, there is lack of an efficient tool to assess the progression in clinical proficiency over the period of residency training. We developed a Progressive Assessment Tool (P.A.T.) that can be used by residents to self-assess (formative) their growth and when ready be assessed by faculty (summative) for clinical proficiency. The tool assesses several key clinical topics in the field of pediatric dentistry. In addition to the criteria's for evaluation, the tool provides a rubric for understanding superior level of performance as well as the critical errors.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify an effective tool to boost clinical proficiency among residents.
- Identify an effective tool for assessment of clinical proficiency among residents.
- Understand the use of P.A.T. as formative and summative assessment tool.
