Technological advancements are constantly being adopted and implemented by dentists in the everyday clinical practice of dentistry. The use of the available diagnostic technology and digital imaging has improved the predictability, safety and efficiency of restoratively driven implant dentistry. Over time, the number of implants placed and restored by general practitioners will increase dramatically, and the general dentist may become one of the principle providers placing implants. With this paradigm shift, dental educators are called upon to prepare the graduates by introducing changes to their curriculum. In this seminar, participants will hear from three schools about implementation and forward thinking and how they are addressing this shift in educating their students in the placement of dental implants.

- Describe different approaches to developing a predoctoral program for surgical placement of implants.
- Have an understanding as to how to implement a predoctoral program for surgical placement of implants in their institution.
- Define what challenges may present with the implementation of this program and how they can be overcome.
