The vision for 2030 is to integrate oral health professionals as members of interprofessional collaborative care teams to enhance patients’ overall health and well-being. The accreditation requirements include a standard on competency in communication skills and collaboration with other health care team members. Therefore, interprofessional education is an important aspect of curricula and interprofessional collaborative care provides clinical experiences to foster competency development. However, integrating these components into an already overburdened curriculum can seem overwhelming. You will learn a manageable strategy to ease into this accreditation requirement as well as how to inspire students to develop an interprofessional identity.
Learning Objectives:
- Analyze the potential interprofessional education and collaborative care experiences available at an educational institution.
- Create an interprofessional identity assignment that focuses on the four interprofessional domains: communication, values, roles and teamwork.
- Value interprofessional education as an important component of dental educational programs.
