This workshop is designed for dental and dental hygiene educators interested in developing qualitative educational research projects and submitting their manuscripts to the Journal of Dental Education (JDE). Part 1 focuses on discussing the decision-making process related to using quantitative versus qualitative methodologies. Part 2 presents an overview of what a sound qualitative research strategy implies. Part 3 centers on preparing the actual manuscript and ensuring that it contains all information needed to be acceptable for publication. After this workshop, participants will have a better understanding of how to succeed in getting their qualitative research published in the JDE.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify when research questions are uniquely suited to be investigated with qualitative instead of quantitative research methodologies.
- Describe a topic that can be best investigated using a qualitative research design and identify the methodological criteria of sound qualitative research.
- Discuss the most important considerations when preparing a manuscript about a qualitative educational research project that will be submitted to the JDE.
