Learning Focus: Emerging Issues and Trends

Dental Education: Clinical

ADEA and the ADA are engaged in a Joint Licensure Task Force to examine the pathways to dental licensure and further to recommend and develop better means of competency assessment and to increase portability of licensure across the United States. ADEA leaders and members of the Task Force will provide an overview of the current state of dental licensure and discuss the recommendations from the task force and the associated action plan for each recommendation. A summary of factors impacting dental schools and next steps for the task force will be presented.

Learning Objectives:

Describe the current state of licensure in the United States.
Compare various pathways to licensure as to portability, examination process and assessment of competency.
Discuss potential next steps in moving toward a non-patient based examination.
