Throughout the educational pipeline, students gain knowledge of the work and discipline of dentistry from formal coursework and training, as well as through formal and informal networks and interactions with current students. Opportunities to learn from colleagues and experienced professionals of varying identities and backgrounds can foster successful leadership development and, ultimately, effective practice in a diverse society. This leadership development program will help students identify appropriate professional mentors, navigate campus politics and professional environments and develop skills for managing cultural identity in the context of the larger institution.
Learning Objectives:
- Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to examine cultural and other social identities as a dental student and engage in critical dialogue regarding their dental school climate.
- Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to practice skills to identify and leverage resources as a student leader.
- Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to identify successful strategies for professional growth and discuss the importance of mentorship within the profession.
