You don’t need to be a cataloger to put the catalog to work for you! Are you a librarian who is short on time but responsible for it all? Perhaps you want your patrons to easily find materials that they need, but keeping current with cataloging practices, policies or jargon isn’t practical with an unwieldy workload? The Cataloging of Children’s Materials Committee wants to show you how using resources you already have in an effective way will preserve time for other duties. This is an opportunity to learn the basics of a catalog record and what’s most relevant to you, how to utilize consistent subject vocabularies to maximize discovery, and ultimately how you can empower your patrons to find what they need. Let the catalog share the load to allow you to commit more time to other tasks!
This program is appropriate for school librarians as well as any other non-cataloger who is nonetheless tasked with maintaining a catalog.
