This panel of librarians from across the field will discuss their experiences as Foster/Adoptive parents. They will discuss not only their information needs through the process and after but also how that experience changed their work and how they approach not just these questions but larger issues of race, social responsibility, identity, and community support.
A wide range of experiences are represented by this panel both for foster and adoptive experiences. The intricacies of foster and adoptive care will be made simple (as simple as they can be) with a lot of humor thrown in to lighten the mood. There will be frank discussions of the complex process of adoption and foster care as well as how libraries can be responsive, supportive, and respectful of these populations.
This is a great chance to find out about these alternatives paths to parenting. We encourage people who are interested in these paths to family to join us. There will be a lot of very pragmatic information available as well as great stories for inspiration if you are already in the process.
