This preconference will focus on how to translate existing skills and approaches to the reference interview into strategies for structuring a consultation on digital scholarship topics (e.g. data curation, digital humanities, visualization). The facilitators will take a train-the-trainer approach, sharing ideas for how to teach and talk about digital scholarship topics that attendees can bring back to their home institution. Over the course of this half-day workshop, the following topics will be covered:
--An overview of the digital scholarship landscape in different emerging topical areas, including research data management, digital humanities, and geospatial data
--Breakout sessions featuring hands-on exercises working through different scenarios drawn from facilitators’ personal experiences
--Knowledge of project management best practices as a core component of effective digital scholarship consultations
Attendees will leave the preconference with a consultation toolkit that they will be able to reference after the preconference has concluded.
This preconference is ideally suited for both functional specialists (including digital scholarship, digital humanities, data, and metadata librarians) and subject specialists in liaison librarian roles. Anyone from the library who is drawn into digital scholarship consultation activities would benefit from this hands-on preconference.
