Senior Lecturer
Water Research Laboratory, UNSW Sydney
Kristen’s research focuses on the application and development of remote sensing technologies to study the nearshore zone; specifically sand bar dynamics and sediment transport. She develops shoreline models and has an interest in dune erosion/storm response of sandy beaches to storms. Her research projects include the use of video remote sensing, satellite, lidar, field and lab-based measurements as well as a variety of machine learning techniques.
Recently Kristen has been involved with research projects to examine the hydrodynamics (waves and water levels) over reefs during exteme (cyclone) conditions. This work is particularly important in the context of rising sea levels and climate change, where Pacific Island Nations may become more vulnerable to these events due to reef submergence and degradation.
