Dr. Jose M. Horrillo-Caraballo is a Research Officer – Coastal Modeller at the College of Engineering at Swansea University working in the SEACAMS2 project funded by WEFO (Welsh European Funding Office). Furthermore, he is the Manager of the Coastal Laboratory in Swansea University. He had been involved in different UK and European projects as a Research Officer at Swansea University and as a Research Fellow at the University of Plymouth after he finished his PhD in the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Nottingham, UK. He is a MSc from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Spain). He worked for more than 8 years in the University of Cartagena, Colombia as a lecturer in Fluids Mechanics and Hydraulics Laboratories and as a project manager in several coastal projects within the Hydraulic and Environmental Institute of the University of Cartagena. He had also been a lecturer of Port Structures and Design of Coastal structures in the Faculty of Naval Engineering and in the Faculty of Oceanography (National Army, Colombia) for more than three years.
His research has covered a lot of areas in coastal engineering and marine renewable subjects. With his recent research project at Swansea University, He is helping companies in the area of convergence of Wales to promote marine renewable energy activities in Wales. He has been preparing, calibrating, validating and acquiring results from a morphodynamics model of the South Wales area. He has also been testing novel wave energy extraction devices on the wave flume.
Jose-Maria has published over 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences on subjects including the assessment of flood risks, long-term coastal evolution, data-driven techniques and numerical modelling of environmental and coastal processes.
