Nature-based solutions can be used to mitigate erosion from ship-induced waves. For a proper design it is crucial to estimate the ship waves acting on the shores, especially the primary waves. Ship waves in fairways with complex bathymetry, e.g., those located in an archipelago, has rarely been investigated. This study includes primary wave measurements of 530 ship passages in a fairway in the Stockholm archipelago. Existing empirical formulas for predicting primary waves have been evaluated based on the measurements and new formulas for the wave height and period have been developed.
