Modeling waves on the Río de la Plata Estuary is challenging. Most of the difficulties are common for any estuary where water level variations, currents and bottom friction strongly influence wave transformation processes. Accordingly, the latest wave hindcast of the estuary which ignores currents and water level variations shows a systematic underestimation of significant wave heights at the intermediate and inner zones of the estuary. The influence of including these hydrodynamic inputs on the wave model is analyzed in this article. The obtained results show the importance of considering them for the new wave hindcast.
