A large-scale experiment (BARSED) was conducted in Oregon State University’s large wave flume to better understand the intra-wave sediment transport processes driving sandbar migration. Suspended and bed load sediment transport were measured on a sandbar crest under field-scale, monochromatic wave forcing typified with either erosive or accretive conditions. Two sediment types and twelve wave conditions were tested. This study is one of the first large-scale experiments to quantify both horizontal and vertical sediment fluxes and transport rates in both the suspended and bed load layers.
