Tsunami Hazard Assessment
The present work assessed the tsunami hazard at Chañaral, Chile, considering the new coastal morphology after an extreme event of river flood and coastal erosion. We used numerical simulation with a highest grid resolution of ~10m. The maximum tide level was defined as 1 m. The results showed that maximum runup can reach up to 15 m and significant part of the coastal community can be flooded by the tsunami. It was also observed that the first tsunami wave can arrive within 15 min and three large waves could strike the town, with the second one being the largest.
