Sea level rise is expected to have major consequences in port infrastructure throughout the planet. Several ports in Japan and Indonesia have suffered from land subsidence, and as a result have had to implement a number of countermeasures to adapt to it. Using land subsidence as a proxy, the authors studied the likely consequence of sea level rise on ports by conducting semi-structured questionnaire surveys with engineers involved in projects to adapt to these challenges.
