Breakwaters and Revetments
Updated risk analysis are needed to decide about adaptation or mitigation actions.
When evaluating risks, several elements should be included: probability of failure modes, intensity of failure, vulnerability of structure and activities taking place on and/or at the lee of the structure and exposure (these last two being possible consequences of failure with given intensity).
All 4 terms combined provide risks levels ranging from no-risk to very high risk.
Once all risks are listed and classified, it is possible to proceed to the decision making process among several alternatives.
An example is provided in the Port of Palma (Spain).
