Although 3D modelling based on RANS-type equations has been the dominant methodology to address the mathematical modelling of wave and coastal structure interaction it demands some additional steps to be taken to be applied to standard coastal engineering problems, such as: modeling of the physical processes, use of the tool and applicability of the codes. This work presents an analysis on recent developments to overcome existing limitations related to joint wave and current generation, extension of active wave absorption to deep water and floating bodies . The applicability of the model will be discussed in three examples.
