Sea Level Rise and Storm Variation

The Louisiana coastal landscape is susceptible to relative sea level rise and a high frequency of storm surges. A L:W isopleth permutation, lines indicating areas of the same land to water ratio, that best simplifies the 2010 coastal landscape (i.e. 99% - 90% - 40% - 1%) is identified. These L:W isopleths are applied in the development of surge models for historical eras c.1890, c.1930, c.1970 and c.2010. Simulation results will demonstrate how storm surge has evolved in coastal Louisiana from 1890 to 2010 and will inform policy makers of regions with temporally accelerating storm surge heights.
