Historical measurements after initial placement of 548,950 cubic meters and subsequent beach fills at Florida’s 2.09-km Ft. Pierce Shore Protection Project show the beach fills quickly erode after a couple of years. To increase the time between each beach fill event, this study applied state-of-the-art multi-dimensional models to simulate shoreline hydrodynamics, wave propagation, littoral processes, and sediment transport to evaluate shoreline morphology that results from construction of various coastal structures and beach fill. Presentation includes development, calibration, and application of a hybrid MIKE Shoreline Morphology model for calculation of shoreline location after beach nourishment and construction of shoreline coastal structures.
