The coast of Campeche is mainly by sandy and rocky beaches. Even though there are no massive touristic and urban developments, erosion rates of up to 7 m/year, with maximums of up to 15 m/year have been reported.
The methodology proposed here is: 1) identification of littoral cells; 2) evaluation of the coastal vulnerability; 3) determination of the priority areas; 4) numerical evaluation of coastal protection alternatives.
The findings can be summarized as: 1) there is a strong relationship between the littoral dynamics, the Loop Current of the Gulf of Mexico and the astronomical tides; 2) the vulnerability is high.
