The linear model on shallow-water waves through a coastal forest has been developed by Mei et al. (2011). In this study, we extend the linear model and consider the effects of weak nonlinearity. Assuming a simple-harmonic incident wave train, higher harmonic waves will be generated inside the vegetated area due to the nonlinearity. Using an array of surface-piercing cylinders to model the forest, we investigate the energy dissipation and harmonic generation. The new results are compared with those of the linear model. The behaviors of different harmonic components are also presented. The effects of different physical parameters are further discussed.
