Wave and Vegetation Interaction
Interactions between vegetation and morphology over tidal flat have strong impacts on ecological regime and morphological evolution. A flume study was carried out to study the effects of vegetation on hydrodynamics and sediment transport. Three kinds of submerged vegetation configurations were tested in the experiments including dense vegetation (vertically uniform), spare vegetation (vertically uniform), and vegetation with vertically varying density. The experiments of each vegetation configuration were carried out under regular waves, unidirectional flow and the combination of wave and current, respectively. The effects of vegetation density on vertical distributions of mean velocity, turbulence and sediment concentration were analyzed.
