Wave Overtopping Experiment
Crown walls on top of a breakwater are an effective measure to decrease the overtopping discharge. Physical model tests have been carried out on a rubble mound breakwater with varying wall height, crest width and a combination of varying crown wall and crest width to quantify their influence on overtopping discharges. Also the influence of the wave period is investigated. It is found that the advice in (EurOtop, 2016) underestimates the average overtopping discharge and a better method to quantify overtopping is provided instead. For different crest configurations, formulas for the influence factors are derived in this work.
