This study is to validate an integrated coastal processes model by simulating waves through a vegetation zone. The wave-action model is based on a multidirectional wave energy balance equation, which is capable of simulating various wave processes such as refraction, diffraction, breaking, bottom friction, etc. The energy loss due to vegetation resistance is modeled by a vegetation drag model proposed by Dalrymple et al. (1984) and modified by Mendez and Losada (2004) for random wave conditions. By simulating a set of experimental cases, this model reproduced wave attenuation effects and wave setup through the vegetation zone in a slope beach.
