Coastal Engineering
Damara WA / Seashore Engineering
The use of a sediment cell hierarchy and landform analysis in coastal engineering is presented. The strength of a hierarchical approach derives from a capacity to simultaneously consider change at a variety of scales and provide focus on processes characteristic to each scale. In this respect, a hierarchy of sediment cells and landforms provides potential for refined evaluation of erosion hazards. Analysis of coastal morphology and sediment cells, provides a basis for (i) refined modelling; (ii) identification of strategic monitoring efforts; and (iii) improved interpretation of model outcomes for coastal management. Examples are provided for parts of the Australian coast.
