Climate change with increased sea level and intensity of the extreme storms leads to an increase of the loads and of the overtopping at breakwaters and seawalls. The inclusion of bull-noses in crown walls may be an effective solution to face climate change while limiting the increase of the structure height and the related costs. This work analyses both experimentally and numerically the case of smooth dikes with crown walls and bull-noses of different heights and inclination, to quantify in a sysematic way the reduction of the overtopping discharge and verify whether existing formulae can be used for design purposes.
