This study systematically compares the design characteristics of sand nourishment. Relations between the design characteristics of sand nourishment and their lifetime (i.e. the duration of their morphodynamic effect on the shoreline) are classified for shorelines in two different morphodynamic states. For example, a linear fit between the nourishment lifetime and nourishment volume of the studied beach nourishments is relatively well determined (r2=0.75). For the studied shoreface nourishments a linear fit of that type is less well determined (r2=0.36). This indicates the importance of the nourishment design location, and its natural morphodynamic equilibrium, for nourishment behaviour and lifetime predictability.
