Debris loading has been identified as a key consideration in the design of coastal infrastructure for major flooding events. The focus of research into this area has emphasized the forces exerted on the structure but has yet to adequately examine the impact conditions. The study presented here examines the probabilistic evolution of the debris velocity through a comprehensive physical modelling experiment performed at the University of Ottawa. The study evaluates the influence of the number of debris and hydrodynamic forcing condition on the debris velocity profile using a camera-based tracking algorithm to capture the debris motion.
